According to a report by Russia’s TASS agency on 3 April, the MoU was signed by Russian Helicopters CEO Andrei Boginsky and IDRO chairman Mansour Moazzami within the framework of developing co-operation on upgrading Iran’s existing fleet of Russian Helicopters platforms. Currently, the Iranian military operates the Mil Mi-8 ‘Hip’ in the logistics role. Other helicopters manufactured by the company are also used by a number of other operators in Iran.
According to a Russian Helicopters spokesperson cited by TASS, the joint venture being explored by the two countries will look to potentially undertake assembly of the Kamov Ka-226 ‘Hoodlum’ or Ansat light helicopters in Iran.
