Iranian authorities arrested activist Sepideh Gholian along with her brother in Ahwaz after revealing that she was tortured during her detention following her participation in labour protests in November.

According to Iranian media outlets, the security authorities arrested social media activist Gholian and her brother, Mahdi, yesterday in the city of Ahwaz, because she spoke about being tortured at the hands of security authorities in the central prison in Ahwaz.

Gholian participated in the protests held by sugar cane workers in Ahwaz after their salaries remained unpaid for six months.

Activists said Gholian and Mahdi may be subjected to psychological pressure in prison.

“The security agents who broke into the home of the father of the social activist Sepideh Gholian to arrest her, had no intention of arresting her brother, but he resisted as security officers tried to arrest his sister. Therefore, both were arrested,” a media station wrote on Telegram.

According to its sources, the channel stated that “the activist Sepideh and her brother were transferred to an unknown location, after her brother was beaten.”
