According to reports from last month, there were more than 248 protests in 71 cities, villages, and industrial areas in Iran in the month of February with an average of nine protests per day.

Workers held more than 86 rallies.

Creditors, who have lost their savings to regime affiliated credit institutions, held 34 rallies.

Pensioners held 15 rallies.

Teachers held 13 rallies.

Students held 10 rallies.

Farmers held 5 rallies.

Bazaar merchants held 5 rallies.

Prisoners had five acts of protests.

There were 10 instances of hunger strikes in prison.

Other sectors held 65 rallies.

Workers

Workers held more than 86 protest rallies in 38 cities, industrial centers and towns in February with an average of three protests per day. The protests were centered around unpaid wages, hiring conditions, lay off of workers, the uncertain state of workers and their dire livelihood conditions.

Creditors

Creditors held 34 rallies in eight Iranian cities. The creditors protested and demanded their savings from the Revolutionary Guards affiliated Caspian Credit Institution in Tehran, Rasht, Mashhad, Kermanshah, Neishapour and Ilam, the Dehkadeyeh Abi Pars Company in Garmdareh, the Sekeye Samen Institution in Tehran, the Meftah Rahnavard Company in Tehran, the Badre Tous Institution in Mashhad, the Shadi Goldsmith in Tehran, Adag Auto in Tehran, the Padideh Institution in Tehran and Mashhad, and the Persian Pars Company in Tehran.

Pensioners

Pensioners held 15 protests in three cities. They were protesting not receiving their pensions and their dire livelihood conditions in Tehran, and the southern town of Shush.

Teachers

Teachers held 13 protests in 12 cities. They were protesting their livelihood conditions, lack of job security, not being hired officially and not receiving their salaries. The teachers held protests in Orumieh, Ardabil, Mashhad, Khoram Abad, Kermanshah, Shiraz, Marivan and Sanandaj in the southern province of Khuzestan.

Students

Students held 10 protest rallies in four universities the most important of which were at the Azad University’s Scientific Research Department, dental students in the southern city of Hormozgan and students of the Sharif Industrial University in Tehran.

Farmers

Farmers held five protest rallies in four cities in protest to lack of water and other grievances.

Bazaar Merchants

Bazaar merchants held five rallies in two cities in February in the capital and the southeast province of Kerman.

Other sectors held 65 protests in 23 cities including:

Gathering by the family of detained labor activist Esmail Bakhshi in protest to his arrest and ongoing incarceration.

Gathering by the families of the victims of a plane crash on the anniversary of the crash in Tehran.

Gathering by firefighters in the southern town of Abadan.

Gathering by victims of the Kermanshah earthquake in Sarpol Zahab in protest to the lack of electricity in their camp where they live in tents more than one year after the earthquake.

Gathering by environmentalist in protest to Isfahan’s Zayanderud River water diversion.

Prisoners

Prisoners had five acts of protests in February in three prisons. These included:

Sunni political prisoner Hamzeh Darvish detained in Rajaie Shahr Prison in Karaj wrote an open letter on the illicit actions of the heads of prison and tortures he was subjected to.

Political prisoner Changiz Qadam Kheiri detained in Masjed Soleiman Prison in southern Iran wrote a letter to the UN Special Rapporteur on Iran on the mental tortures he was subjected to.

Mehdi Farahi Shandiz, a political prisoner held in the Central Karaj Prison wrote an open letter on the 40 years of torture and execution by the Iranian regime. He included the chants of “down with dictator” and “down with Khamenei”, the regime’s Supreme Leader in his letter.

Payam Shakiba, a political prisoner in Rajaie Shahr Prison wrote a message on the 40th anniversary of the regime from prison.

Anvar Khezri, Sunni political prisoner wrote a letter detailing his suffering during his nine years of prison.

Hunger strikes

There were 10 instances of hunger strikes by Iranian political prisoners in February. These included nine individual strikes and one group strike in the Sheiban Prison in the southern town of Ahvaz in protest to the torture of political prisoners and holding political prisoners in one place with dangerous criminals.
