At least 291 people have died from novel coronavirus infection as of Tuesday, according to the announcement of Iran’s Ministry of Health and Medical Education.
A total of 8,042 people have been affected by the disease, among whom 2,731 have been recovered, official IRNA news agency quoted the ministry as saying. Iran announced the first cases of the virus infection in the central city of Qom on Feb. 19.
Iran’s Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani on Tuesday called for regional cooperation to stem the novel coronavirus, IRNA reported. Larijani made the remarks in separate telephone conversations with his Kuwaiti and Omani counterparts, briefing them on the measures taken by Iran to combat the epidemic in the country.
A team comprising five experts from the Red Cross Society of China arrived in Tehran on Feb. 29. The medical team met with the Iranian Red Crescent Society to discuss how to prevent and control the spread of the virus in the country.
The Chinese medical team in Iran has set “an excellent example of ‘peer-to-peer’ experience sharing,” Maria van Kerkhove, technical lead for the World Health Organization’s Health Emergencies Program, told a daily briefing in Geneva in early March.
