In February 2020, coronavirus has steadily spread throughout Iran with the mullahs’ regime having a hand in the rapid spread of this virus in various regions, the rapid increase in the number of victims, and the transmission of the virus to other countries.

Another tragedy is the spread of coronavirus in prisons, and a major catastrophe is expected in the near future, due to the accumulation of prisoners in prisons and the disastrous health situation in them, and so far 10 prisoners in Iran have died as a result of infection with this virus.

Political prisoners with additional restrictions will face double risk in the event of an outbreak.

Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, the President of the Iranian Resistance Council, warned of the spread of coronavirus among prisoners in many prisons, given the prevailing weak health situation, calling on the Security Council, the Secretary-General of the United Nations, the Human Rights Council, the High Commissioner for Human Rights, and other relevant international bodies to act urgently.

This comes in order to save the life and health of prisoners, especially political prisoners who are subjected to torture, deprivation and excessive pressure, in order to prevent a major humanitarian catastrophe.

Death penalty

Besides the spread of the virus, the tyranny of the mullahs did not stop for a moment, as human rights monitoring in Iran recorded at least 22 executions in February 2020.

There is no doubt that the actual number of those executed was much more than the number announced, because the mullahs’ regime carried out many executions secretly inside prisons, and no news was allowed to be published.

Executions were carried out in the cities of Karaj, Isfahan, Qom, Shiraz, Borujerd, Zahedan, North Khorasan and Kermanshah.

Torture to extract confessions

After the Judicial Authority spokesman issued final rulings on 8 individuals imprisoned in the environmental field in Iran, a complaint and letters from Nilofer Bayani, an environmental activist, were published in cyberspace, referring to psychological and physical torture at prisons.

In her complaint, Nilufer highlighted some cases of ill-treatment, including the daily threat of execution and solitary confinement in the cell for 8 months, complete isolation, prolonged interrogations that range from 9 to 12 hours around the clock, permanent interrogations, or blindfolding.

The arrests

Eighty-one individuals were arrested for protesting against the election play, inciting citizens to boycott the elections, accusing them of participating in the November 2019 and January 2020 uprisings, and participating in student and labor protests.

Coinciding with the anniversary of the revolution against the Shah, and on the eve of the Mullah’s Shura Council elections, the anti-humanity mullahs’ regime began in recent days a massive campaign of mass arrests of freedom students.

In its statement, the National Council of the Iranian Resistance said that the mullahs’ regime in Tehran issued judicial decisions against a number of detainees in the November uprising that swept all of the country with long prison terms.
