Deception, disinformation and suppressing journalists is the tip of the iceberg of the Iranian regime’s deliberate disregard on the spread of coronavirus across the country.
There are no reliable official statistics as the regime has suppressed the real number of deaths across the country.
Security forces arrest many independent journalists and voices who express their objections against the regime’s incapability to control the devastating situation.
The opposition, MEK, has so far reported almost 13,000 deaths – a death toll at least five times more than the theocracy’s official statistics. The group is well-known for its experience in reporting Iran’s secret nuclear programme and the number of demonstrators killed in November last year, which was confirmed by Reuters.
For loathed mullahs in Iran, doing everything to secure the regime’s survival is legitimate. The theocracy has kicked off an orchestra manipulating facts through collaboration between the regime’s apologists in the United States and some Democrats including Congresswoman Ilhan Omar.
In an open letter to some world leaders, the regime’s President Hassan Rouhani demanded the lifting of all sanctions. He called on American people to urge the US Congress and the White House to repeal the sanctions.
“It is IMMORAL to let a bully kill innocents,” the regime’s Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif followed on Twitter.
Sanctions have significantly stifled Iran’s banking transactions, which is also blacklisted by the global anti-money laundering watchdog FATF.
But the regime is receiving hundreds of tons of medical products. The US administration has consistently reiterated that exporting medicine and other medical aids to Iran are excluded from sanctions.
For instance, the United Arab Emirates recently sent 32 tons of medical supplies and relief equipment to Iran. The Washington-based think-tank, Foundation for Defense of Democracies (FDD), recently revealed that the first full year after the re-imposition of US sanctions pharmaceutical exports fell by just over five per cent.
Indeed, corruption and controlling all of Iran’s import entries by the Revolutionary Guard (IRGC) is the main reason for the country’s shortages.
A part of imported pharmaceutical products has been sent to the IRGC-backed militias in Iraq who are infected with the virus. Black-listed as a terrorist organisation, the IRGC has swallowed a significant percentage of Iran’s budget.
In contrast to crystal clear facts, the Iranian regime’s apologists from the US to Asia and even Scotland have performed an orchestra to lift sanctions.
Congresswoman Ilhan Omar joined Javad Zarif’s disinformation campaign and tweeted: “We need to suspend these sanctions before more lives are lost.”
Eleven Democratic senators, led by Chris Murphy, called for easing sanctions.
Indeed, the theocracy would prefer to see Trump’s maximum pressure policy disappear. Recently, Javad Zarif in Munich met with Mr Murphy in what many saw as a lobbying attempt with American politicians.
In Scotland, an old left-wing academic wrote to Herald’s editor demonising the former Scottish MEP, Struan Stevenson, while demanded to lift the sanctions.
On the other hand, the UK Government has still failed over its Iran policy. Number 10 recently gifted five million euros of the British taxpayers’ money to the mullahs. Many believe it was a ransom for the release of the British-Iranian prisoner, Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe.
Meanwhile, the US Secretary of State revealed that the theocracy’s officials stole more than $1 billion in humanitarian funds meant to be used to help the country’s people fight the spread of coronavirus.
The Guardian recently reported that talks between the mullahs’ ambassador to the UK and the British officials took place over the payment of a £400 million deal between the two countries.
The Quincy Institute, which is funded by billionaire Georg Soros, published a manipulative article claiming that the regime is unable to tackle the virus because of the sanctions. It demands sanction relief on Iran’s financial sector, its oil sector, and all other sectors of Iran’s economy.
Mr Soros is notoriously known for black Wednesday in the UK in 1992 when a collapse in the pound sterling forced Britain to withdraw from the European Exchange Rate Mechanism.
Iran’s lobbyists seem to have forgotten the reasons for President Donald Trump’s maximum pressure campaign, which is because of the mullahs’ nuclear ambitions, regional mischief, illegal missile programme and human rights violations.
Their dishonesty is apparent as they have not called for medical aid nor asked their boss in Tehran to accept the US administration’s offers to give humanitarian aid to Iran. The Iranian regime expelled Doctors Without Borders who were helping to tackle the virus.
The last recent attacks on the US military bases in Iraq have proved that the regime has other priorities than helping the Iranian people.
Who should protect the people of a country? It seems the mullahs’ regime uses its own people as human shields to fund its regional proxies.
