Saudi Vice Minister of Defense Khalid bin Salman said the targeting of Abha Airport by Iranian-backed Houthi militia is “a continuation of their immoral and criminal behavior that is in line with the malign behavior of their patrons.”

In a series of posts on Twitter, the minister said for 40 years the Iranian regime has been “spreading chaos, death and destruction, by sponsoring and financing terrorist organizations including the Houthis.”

“The continuation of the Iranian regime’s aggression and reckless escalation, whether directly or through its militias will result in grave consequences,” he said. “The international community must carry out it’s responsibility to avoid this outcome.”

A missile fired by Iranian-backed Yemeni rebels hit a Saudi airport on Wednesday, wounding at least 26 people and ratcheting up regional tensions just as international efforts to avert escalation get underway. The projectile hit the arrival section at Abha airport in the southwest of the country, according to the state-run Saudi Press Agency.
