The Iranian regime’s security agents on Friday 30 June 2017 arrested a number of youths with mistreatment and beating in East Azerbaijan Province. The youths were gathered to commemorate Babak Khorramdin, a historic hero of Iranian people, in Qaleh Babak.
The participants in the ceremony held placards and banners and chanted slogans calling for freedom of political prisoner Siyamak Mirzaei who is on hunger strike.
The number of youths who were arrested is reported to be 12 and an 11 years old child is also among the arrestees. According to the report, they were transferred the Intelligence department detention center in Tabriz and Ahar city prison in East Azerbaijan province.
Siyamak Mirzaei is an Azari activist who was arrested in Pars Abad Moghan on 23 June 2016 and transferred to notorious Evin prison in Tehran. He wrote a letter from ward 8 of Evin prison addressed to the warden and said: “Because of repeated failures in the processing my case, until the time of the discount and adjustment on the bail and also completing the defects in the case for an appeal court, I will start a hunger strike on Saturday, June 17, 2017.”
