Iran has threatened to turn the Gulf into a “sea of blood” littered with US corpses – as tensions between the two countries continue to rise.

In a sermon delivered on Friday, influential cleric Mohammad Ali Movahedi-Kermani warned Trump that the Islamic republic is ready to go to war.

The powerful speaker threatened that the Gulf could turn “from Azure to red” and that Iran is ready to “abandon all constraints” and go to war if tensions continue to escalate.

Fiery rhetoric between the two countries has seen tensions rise dramatically over the past few months – sparking fears that both countries could stumble into war.

This week, Iran confirmed that it would break limits on uranium enrichment to try and force the west to lift strict nuclear sanctions imposed on the country.

This sparked fears that the country could be less than 12 months away from having nuclear weapons and prompted responses from the UK and France.

In response to this controversial move, Trump said Iran “better be careful” about exceeding the uranium limit set in the 2015 deal.

Now, in a sermon delivered to an audience in Tehran, cleric Movahedi-Kermani has responded with new threats.

He said: “Think of an attack only if you want to change the colour of the Persian Gulf waters from azure to red.

“You are living in a glass house.

“You’d better watch out.

The cleric also repeated threats to blow up the Israel’s nuclear reactor – the US’s closest ally in the Middle East – and referenced the US drone that was shot down above the Gulf last month.

Trump had claimed he was ready to strike Iran, but he backed down at the last minute after Iran shot down a US drone flying above the gulf.

In his sermon, Movahedi-Kermani said: “You saw the corpses of US troops before your eyes, and told yourself they have hit the drone that was flying 65,000 feet above the sea.”

The influential cleric was a former advisor of Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini – a powerful religious leader in Iran until his death in 1989.

Though rumours are flying about Iran’s potential to develop nuclear weapons, the cleric insisted that Iran’s uranium enrichment is only for “scientific research”.

BRITAIN SHOULD ‘BE SCARED’

Earlier this week, Iran warned that Britain should be “scared” about Tehran’s retaliation over the dramatic seizure of an Iranian supertanker by Royal Marines.

Mohammad Ali Mousavi Jazayeri hinted the Islamic Republic may strike back over the capture of the giant vessel, impounded over fears it was illegally shipping oil to Syria.

He said: “I am openly saying that Britain should be scared of Iran’s retaliatory measures over the illegal seizure of the Iranian oil tanker,” said the cleric, a member of the powerful clerical body the Assembly of Experts.

“We have shown that we will never remain silent against bullying … As we gave a staunch response to the American drone, the appropriate response to this illegal capture (of the tanker) will be given by Iran as well.”
