On Tuesday, Iran threatened the United States, warning that it would destroy American military bases and aircraft carriers “if they make a mistake.”

According to the Tasnim news agency, Hossein Nejat, a brigadier general in Iran’s Revolutionary Guards, stated, “American bases are within the range of our missiles … Our missiles will destroy their aircraft carriers if they make a mistake. Americans are very well aware of the consequences of a military confrontation with Iran.’

According to The Daily Mail, roughly a week and a half ago, Egypt stopped a Ukrainian tanker carrying Iranian oil. Egypt has also imprisoned six men Egypt claimed were spies for Iran. The Daily Mail added, “Last Thursday, the British Royal Marines helped seize an oil tanker off the southern tip of Spain and brought it to the Bay of Gibraltar. The Grace 1 supertanker, able to haul 2 million barrels of crude oil, was found to be in violation of EU sanctions. The cargo came from Iran.”

After the Gibraltar incident, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani blustered, “We should all try to ensure full security for shipping lines across the world, and I warn the British that you have initiated insecurity and you will understand its consequences later … An occupier government (UK) that is illegally present in that region (Gibraltar) has taken such a despicable measure (to seize Iran’s vessel), while the people of Spain also abominate the UK move.”

As Express noted, “US-used bases and facilities in the region include 4 in Afghanistan, 2 in Bahrain, 1 in Israel, 4 in Kuwait, 2 in Oman, 2 in Qatar, 1 in Syria, 2 in Turkey and 3 in the United Arab Emirates.” Express also quoted Iranian cleric Mohammad Ali Mohvadi-Kermani ranting to the U.S., “Think of an attack only if you want to change the color of the Persian Gulf waters from azure to red.” Movahedi-Kemarni also said Trump had recently pulled back from attacking Iran because he “saw the corpses of US troops before your eyes.”

In late June, President Trump announced a new executive order adding more sanctions against Iran in response to Iran shooting down a U.S. military drone in international airspace. He stated:
Sanctions imposed through the executive order … will deny the supreme leader and the supreme leader’s office and those closely affiliated with him and the office access to key financial resources and support.

The assets of Ayatollah Khamenei and his office will not be spared from the sanctions. These measures represent a strong and proportionate response to Iran’s increasingly provocative actions. We will continue to increase pressure on Tehran until the regime abandons its dangerous and aspirations including the pursuit of nuclear weapons, increased enrichment of uranium, development of ballistic missiles, engagement in and support for terrorism, fueling of foreign conflicts, and belligerent acts directed against the United States and its allies.
