A glance at the Iranian regime’s approach toward people during the COVID-19 outbreak alone shows how the mullahs are using this virus to achieve their sinister goals. Meanwhile, the mullahs are careful not be infected by this virus.
The Iranian regime’s President Hassan Rouhani refused to go the parliament and accepted the risk of not being able to gather enough votes for his proposed Minister of Industry and Mines. In another development, the regime’s Assembly of Experts postponed its session last week due to the coronavirus outbreak. All the while, Rouhani and other officials are insisting on holding the university entrance exams and the mourning ceremonies for Shi’ite Islam’s third Imam, Hossain-ibn-Ali. This is despite numerous warning by the regime’s own health officials who predicted holding the Muharram mourning ceremonies or the entrance exams will further increase the number of the COVID-19 infection and mortality rate.
“When the entrance exam is discussed, again some people say whether it must be held or not? Well, how is it that we go to streets today? How is it that we run work offices, stores, and malls? Holding university entrance exams is no different,” said Rouhani on Saturday.
He also blamed people for not taking the health protocols seriously and this illness has “a very short period. He bogusly claimed this, while back in February, he had said everything would return to normal by February 29.
The People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI, Mujahedin-e Khalq or MEK) announced on Sunday that nearly 90,000 people have died because of the novel coronavirus outbreak. People are grappling with economic hardships, due to the regime’s wrong economic and foreign policies, and the coronavirus outbreak. Yet, instead of helping people the regime’s officials, notably regime Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and Rouhani, blame people for the spread of this virus and bogusly talk about “people’s lack of cooperation,” or failure in “abiding by health protocol. All the while, they send people to the minefield of the coronavirus.
Khamenei has even described this pandemic, with its rising death toll, as a “blessing” for the regime rather than a disaster for the people. The chain of events shows the regime really considered this virus as a gift from heaven and an ally to quell the restive Iranian society, particularly after the nationwide Iran protests in November 2019 and January 2020, which rattled the regime’s foundations.
The Iranian regime’s wrong social and economic policies, as well as its forty years of oppression, has turned the Iranian society to a powder keg. After the nationwide Iran protests in November and January, with people chanting “death to dictator,” the mullahs understood that another uprising was inevitable. The public boycott of the regime’s sham parliamentary elections showed the real vote of the Iranian people is for regime change.
To prolong its life, the Iranian regime denied the existence of virus for almost a month. It held the elections although its officials were aware that this election will be largely boycotted by people. When the mullahs were forced to announce the existence of virus, they started downplaying it. They told people to stay at home during holidays but opened all highways and did not impose and control the necessary health protocols. The quarantine in Iran was unlike other countries. People were not supported by the government and this was increasing social hatred toward regime. So, Khamenei and Rouhani forced people back to work.
The outcome
The regime’s mismanagement of the coronavirus outbreak has increased people’s hatred toward the regime. The regime intends to prevent any uprising by using this virus and killing people. Yet, these actions will soon turn people’s sadness of losing their loved ones to more anger toward the regime.
In this regard, the state-run Mostaghel daily wrote in July 13: “This nation will not forget how it was abandoned during these bitter days. This will affect the upcoming incidents. The Government did not contain and control the coronavirus to relevantly control the anger of defiant people. But I wish that the suffering and illness of the people were not used as a cure for obliviousness and a means of revenge of the events of November and December. Because soon, people will come to their table for eating, and their despair of an empty table will lead them to protest on busy streets.”
