A poster depicting the late Hezbollah commander Imad Mughniyeh in a Nabatieh town with the hashtag “our father in heaven” sparked controversy and led the Catholic Information Center to complain to Hezbollah’s leadership.
Mughniyeh’s picture, which was superimposed on a photo of Iranian revolutionary leader Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, was put up by a resident of Nabatieh’s Sharqieh outside his house. The caption appeared to reference the Christian Lord’s Prayer.
The Catholic Information Center said in a statement Wednesday that it contacted Hezbollah officials, including Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Mahmoud Qmati. The center said Qmati and other party officials expressed surprise and immediately worked to black out the caption.
Hezbollah’s leadership apologized and emphasizing their respect for religion, especially Christianity, the statement added.
Pictures shared on social media showed the resident putting up a sticker with the hashtag “My name is Palestine” to cover up the controversial phrase.
