A teenage girl in Iran was forced to execute her own mother for killing her father. The Iranian prison authorities ordered the 19-year-old girl to kick the chair away from under the feet of her mother leading to her hanging.
The deceased woman has been identified as Maryam Karimi. She was convicted and sentenced to death for murdering her husband, who reportedly abused her for years and refused to grant her divorce.
The woman’s father Ebrahim was also convicted and condemned to death for aiding his daughter in the murder of his son-in-law. It is alleged that Ebrahim tried to resolve the issues between the couple but in vain and then decided to aid his daughter to murder her husband, according to a report in Irish Mirror.
After the arrest of father-daughter duo, Maryam’s 6-year-old daughter was sent to live with her grandparents. She was told that her parents had died 13-years ago.
Just weeks before the hanging, the Iranian authorities told the girl, who is now 19-years-old, how her father was killed. The father-daughter duo were sentenced to death on February last year. However, their execution was delayed due to unknown reasons.
Under Iran’s Islamic law, it is the relatives of the murder victims who decided the punishment of the convicted killer.
After the conviction of the accused, the law provides for families of victims whether they want ‘revenge’ (Qisas) or spare the convict and accept blood money. Another option is to forgive the convict.
In the case of Maryam, her daughter was the only one to decide on the matter. The girl was taken to Rasht Central Prison to kick the chair from under the feet of her mother causing her to hang from rafters. Her grandfather Ebhraim was also hanged in June this year in the same prison.
