TankerTrackers.com, a firm following movements of oil tankers reported Friday that an Iranian vessel SILVIA 1 has unloaded one million barrels of oil at Syria’s Banyas terminal and is returning home.

The Islamic Republic continues to ship oil to Syria despite both U.S. and EU sanctions on Syrian refineries.

Kpler, a data intelligence firm, told Radio Farda on September 5 that Iran has delivered daily 33,000 barrels of oil to Syria in August.

SILVIA 1 is a Suezmax type of tanker, the largest ship designed for transiting the Suez Canal in a fully loaded condition.

The Iranian tanker is returning to the Persian Gulf via the Suez after “successfully delivering one million barrels to Baniyas”, according to TankerTrackers.

In July Gibraltar detained another Iranian tanker for six weeks on suspicion of carrying oil for Syria. It was eventually released, and its last location was reported to be the Eastern Mediterranean, near Syria. The U.S. has warned both governments and the private sector not to assist the shup called Adrian Darya 1.

It is not clear if Washington will also pursue SILVIA 1.
