Minister of Foreign Affairs Adel Al-Jubeir said that the terrorism practiced by Iran through its blatant interference in the Arab affairs and supporting terrorist militias is among the ugliest manifestations of terrorism.
“This requires us to unite and cooperate to confront it.”
Addressing the 150th session of the Arab Foreign Ministers’ Council here on Tuesday, he said the Kingdom has exerted all efforts, in cooperation with the international community, to combat and eliminate the malicious scourge of terrorism.
“The Iran-affiliated terrorist Houthi militias have never positively responded to the international community’s calls to seriously involve in the Yemeni political process and will not do so in future, Al-Jubeir said and added that the last example for which was their absence at the latest Geneva meeting.
The minister said that the Kingdom is still keeping to its commitment towards Yemeni unity, sovereignty, stability, security and territorial integrity by backing the legitimate government and cooperating with the UN Envoy to Yemen in resolving the crisis.
Al-Jubeir stressed that the Kingdom is committed to taking all steps to ensure that civilian and humanitarian casualties are avoided in accordance with the principles of international humanitarian law.
He emphasized that the coalition countries will continue to cooperate with the United Nations and other relief agencies to ensure humanitarian access to the civilians in Yemen in order to alleviate the suffering of the Yemeni people.
“While the Arab Coalition to support legitimacy in Yemen secures deliverance of aid to all Yemeni people, the Houthis kept targeting and besieging cities and towns to prevent deliverance of food and drugs to the needy. These militias have launched more than 190 missiles targeting Saudi cities, including the holy city of Makkah, in flagrant provocation of the religious sentiments of Muslims worldwide. Al-Jubeir added that the total humanitarian assistance provided by the Kingdom to Yemen over the past four years amounted to more than $13 billion.
Al-Jubeir, who was chairman of the 149th session of the ministerial council, highlighted the Kingdom’s keenness to unify the Arab stance and make the functioning of Arab League more effective and revamp the Pan-Arab joint action system so as to cope with the latest developments in the Arab political, social and economic arenas. He reiterated that Palestine is atop of the Kingdom’s all priorities and concerns, saying that the Kingdom absolutely rejects any move that may compromise the historical and legal status of Jerusalem or establishment of an independent Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital.
Meanwhile, Al-Jubeir held talks with his Palestinian, Iraqi, Egyptian and Jordanian counterparts on the sidelines of the meeting. He also chaired a special session of the Arab foreign ministers to discuss the crisis facing the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA).
The meeting discussed about the systematic campaign against UNRWA to reduce or cancel its role, as well as ways to support it financially in the light of the recent US decision to stop US financial contributions to its annual budget. Addressing the session, Commissioner General of UNRWA Pierre Krahenbühl reviewed the conditions of the agency, its needs, and the repercussions of the financial crisis on the services provided to the Palestinian refugees.
