Iran announced on Tuesday that two state-of-art indigenous submarines have joined Iranian navy fleet in the country’s southeastern coast of Makran, Tasnim news agency reported.

The submarines joined the navy’s fleet during a ceremony in the port city of Jask, attended by high-ranking officials, including Commander of the Iranian Navy Hossein Khanzadi.

“Today, the strategic region of Jask is witnessing the addition of one of the world’s most sophisticated technologies,” Khanzadi said in reference to the submarines.

A message of the submarines joining the navy’s fleet is that Iran has achieved this success under the U.S. sanction pressures, Khanzadi was quoted as saying.

The report did not elaborate on the specifications of the submarines.

Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has urged the Iranian army to develop defensive equipment despite West’s discontent.
