Iranian Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) Naval Forces Commander Alireza Tangsiri said Iran plans to manufacture smart speedboats in the near future.
He attributed the speedboat production to Iran’s concerns, stressing that being in danger today requires Iran to produce speedboats and achieve self-sufficiency.
He pointed out that the IRGC is increasing its ability to “disappear from radar systems” and to produce “smart” and “smaller” speedboats that are “capable of carrying new missiles.”
This plan comes amid an international move to form a coalition that would ensure the security of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.
“The IRGC’s speedboats managed to overpass US forces six times over the past year and a half,” Tangsiri said, referring to confrontations between his forces and the US Navy.
Speedboats “have advanced 10-fold in six years and 20 percent over the past year.”
He also claimed that the speed of the IRGC boats is “twice that of the US boats.”
Chief Commander of the IRGC General Hossein Salami, for his part, said his naval forces are fully prepared to defend Iran in case an armed conflict with “enemies” breaks out.
Speaking at the sixth annual conference on “speedboats” in the northern port of Anzali, Salami questioned the enemies’ ability to confront Iran’s naval unit if armed maritime conflict erupts.
He said, “enemies are weak in the face of Iranian forces, yet, we never underestimate their power and will continue to be fully prepared to advance along the path of steadfastness and resistance.”
“The sea is a crucial field to combat arrogant powers and IRGC naval forces are fully prepared to defend the Iranian nation’s positions,” Tasnim news agency quoted him as saying.
Iran usually uses the term “arrogant powers” to refer to the United States, and it usually includes also western countries and Washington’s regional allies.
Meanwhile, Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei denied Wednesday that his country is seeking to produce nuclear weapons, pointing out that Iran could have started developing nuclear weapons, but it would not do so because its use is “religiously forbidden.”
His comments were made one week after ordering the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran(AEOI) and the government to continue implementing the announced plan to reduce its nuclear deal obligations.
