Former mayor of New York City Rudolph Giuliani recently said that the United States must consider The People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK) – the biggest and most organised opposition to the Iranian regime – in the same regard as the Iranian regime holds it. That is to say, as the alternative to clerical rule.

Giuliani highlighted that there is much need for change in Iran and indeed the people are calling for freedom, democracy and human rights but that this requires “organization, leadership, a platform, endurance, competence, and sacrifice”. The MEK, he said, is the only group that has all of these characteristics.

The MEK is part of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI) and it is led by Mrs. Maryam Rajavi. Mrs. Rajavi has supporters all over the world and her face has been displayed all over Iran during the protests that have been ongoing since the end of December last year. She has widespread support inside Iran and is the voice of encouragement that makes the people realise that change is possible.

The Iranian regime is very aware that the MEK is a major threat to its survival and it explains why the opposition group has been on the receiving end of a number of bomb threats and misinformation campaigns.

The regime has spies all over Europe and the United States and several agents recently arrested for their malign activities. The Iranian regime has tried to eliminate the opposition over the past few decades. During the 1988 massacre in Iran, tens of thousands of opposition members were killed over the course of one single summer. The regime is even bold enough to assassinate and kill opposition members with terrorism in the United States and Europe.

Giuliani said: “We have an obligation to listen to what the Iranian people have been saying over the past nine months in their continuous nationwide protests.” He went on to say that he agrees with the people of Iran – they are “entitled to freedom and democracy, and should be led by those who have fought for it and with whom America can find its best allies”.

He slammed the Iranian regime for planning to carry out a terrorist attack in New York city and said that Tehran does not seem to mind the political backlash that would come with its terrorist activities abroad.

Giuliani said that the Iranian regime will soon be overthrown. “It is a question of when, not if. Clearly, the people of Iran have had enough. The currency has plummeted. In the streets, men and women are demanding a better life, and an end to the corruption and costly regional meddling that has robbed them of their futures. Sanctions are working to cut off the ruling apparatus’ access to funds. These are the conditions that create change, and revolutions.”

And finally, he said that Maryam Rajavi will lead the “movement of dedicated dissidents that she has established inside Iran and across the Western world” and the long awaited democratic republic will no longer be just a dream.
