Iran will take the fourth step to scale down its undertakings under the 2015 nuclear deal with world powers by injecting gas into 1,044 centrifuges at Fordow fuel enrichment plant on Wednesday, the Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said on Tuesday.
United Kingdom Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab said on Tuesday that Iran’s decision to take a new step to reduce commitments to a landmark 2015 nuclear deal posed a threat to Britain’s national security.
“Iran’s latest actions clearly contravene the deal and pose a risk to our national security,” Raab said. “We want to find a way forward through constructive international dialogue, but Iran needs to stand by the commitments it made and urgently return to full compliance.”
France’s foreign ministry spokesperson said: We have joined Germany, the United Kingdom, and the European External Action Service in repeatedly expressing our deep concern over Iran’s recent announcements and actions that run counter to its commitments under the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).
Iran’s announcement on November 5 that it would increase its enrichment capacity goes against the Vienna agreement, which strictly limits activities in this area. We and our partners are awaiting the IAEA’s upcoming reports on Iran’s announcements and actions, the French foreign ministry added.
Germany’s Federal Foreign Minister Heiko Maas criticized Iran’s decision to accelerate uranium enrichment. “We do not think that is acceptable,” he said at a press conference in Budapest. “Ultimately, Iran is risking the future of the nuclear deal in its entirety.”
