On the eve of the anniversary of the major Iran protests of 2019, the regime has increased its oppressive measures to counter possible uprisings.

Reports obtained by the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK) from Iran indicate the regime has put pressure on the family members of martyrs of last November’s uprising.

According to the MEK, on Sunday, agents of the regime’s Ministry of Intelligence and Security (MOIS) threatened family members of one of the November uprising’s martyrs, identified as Mohammad, against holding any memorial for their son.

The mother of this martyr said: “The MOIS summoned my husband and son a few days ago. They [MOIS agents] have threatened them against using any hashtags on social medial related to the November uprising. They even arrested a friend of my late son, who had only uploaded Mohammad’s photo with a hashtag related to the uprising. After questioning him, they [MOIS agents] confiscated his cellphone.”

In another desperate spotted on Sunday, the regime’s forces in Behbahan, southwest Iran, destroyed the road to Behesht-e Rezvan cemetery, where martyrs of the November uprising are buried. According to the MEK, the MOIS bureau in Behbahan ordered the destruction of the road to the Behesht-e Rezvan cemetery.

Behbahan was a scene of numerous protests by people. The regime’s forces killed many of the protesters in this town.

The regime’s State Security Forces (SSF) and Revolutionary Guards (IRGC) slaughtered over 1500 protesters during the major Iran protests. Although the regime’s brutal oppression temporarily stopped protests from spreading, it failed to quell the restive society, which is ready to explode at any time.

The economic and social factors which resulted in the November 2019 protests still exist. People are grappling with poverty, they suffer from 40 years of oppression, and now they are under pressure of the COVID-19 crisis, which is worsening daily due to the regime’s mismanagement.

Now, since the regime fears any commemoration of the martyrs could spark new protests, it desperately tries to prevent them.

Also, the regime has increased its human rights violations to intimidate the public.

In a similar development, the regime executed a prisoner in Mashhad, northeast Iran, on Saturday, November 7. Recently, the IRGC Commander in Chief, Hossein Salami, announced the creation of a headquarters for fighting “thugs,” a term the regime uses to tarnish defiant youths’ image.

On October 18, the SSF forces in Mashhad killed a young man, Mehrdad Sepehri, by pepper-spraying him in public.

In this regard, Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, the opposition president, on October 8, said: “The clerical regime tortures and humiliates young people in Iran streets. Black-clad guards encircle and brutalize youths, battering their human dignity in a bid to prevent the outbreak of our nation’s wrath. But they only add fuel to the fire by such desperate measures.”

In this regard, describing the restive society as “fields of wrath,” the state-run Sharq daily on October 26 wrote: “The country’s critical economic and social conditions have paved the way for developing rage and violence. If the government, law enforcement, and judiciary do not take such a situation seriously, this field of wrath will become widespread.”
