The Iranian regime’s President Hassan Rouhani encountered anger and disdain against the ruling dictatorship during his trip to Yazd, central Iran.

His speech in the city was repeatedly interrupted by the people enraged over inflation and high prices. “Inflation, high prices, answer us Rouhani,” “liar, liar,” and “let go of fringe issues, resolve the main problems,” the crowd chanted.

The crowd also protested against the regime’s anti-labor policies, carrying placards, which read, “Workers’ livelihood, workers’ housing.”

Rouhani’s visit to Yazd also reflected the escalating feuding within the regime’s ruling factions, as the major blows to the regime by the uprisings in Iraq and Lebanon as well as the failure of the Iran nuclear deal (JCPOA) and the looming deadline for the FATF have aggravated the regime’s internal crisis. “Discord and schism are what America wants. Let’s not allow what America wants to be heard from a few people, whose number is limited across the country…. All of us are in a critical historical moment today,” Rouhani warned.

For their part, elements loyal to the regime’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei carried placards threatening Rouhani with death and blaming him for the failure of the JCPOA.

Rouhani also expressed his anger over the imprisonment of his brother Hossein Fereydoun, convicted for embezzlement and bribery, and accused the rival faction of massive corruption. “Where’s the corruption of the big shots? Why don’t you investigate them? That they took some people to court and advertised it does not beguile the public. Why don’t they investigate the big ones?” Rouhani complained.

Acknowledging the depth of government corruption, Rouhani said, “I ask the Judiciary, now that it is addressing million and billion-toman corruption, to address the billion-dollar corruption as well… The money I announced today, must be explained to the public by the Judiciary, otherwise, I will make each and every one of them public. It is not clear what the gentleman who stole 2.7 billion dollars, and was arrested and imprisoned, did with the money? We want transparency on the two-billion-dollar dossier… I ask officials to explain the case of an [regime] institution which has not paid back 947 million dollars it had borrowed. I ask the relevant agencies to explain the situation of those entities which owe more than 700 million dollars.”
