Prominent human rights defender, Narges Mohammadi who was arrested at the ceremony of slain November 2019 protesters yesterday, has been informed in solitary confinement that her 30 month imprisonment and 80 lashes sentence will be enforced.

According to information obtained by Iran Human Rights, in a phone call to her family from prison, Narges Mohammadi has reported that she was informed that her 30 month imprisonment and 80 lashes sentence will be enforced. She was violently arrested while attending the ceremony of slain November 2019 protester, Ebrahim Ketabdar yesterday and transferred to Evin Prison.

Her husband, Taghi Rahman tweeted: “I reiterate that they notifed Narges of the 30 month imprisonment sentence in solitary confinement. There is also 80 lashes. By cutting her phone calls, we have no way of checking what condition she is in.”

In videos shared online, Sakineh Ahmadi reports that prominent human rights defender, Narges Mohammadi was violently arrested at her son’s memorial service. She was arrested by “force and violence”, according to Ebrahim Ketabdar’s mother.

The new charges were brought while she was still serving her previous sentence and relate to her protest against the bloody crackdown against the November 2019 nationwide protests and letters published from prison.

Narges Mohammadi is a human rights and anti-death penalty activist, journalist, former deputy director of the Defenders of Human Rights Centre (DHRC) and member of Legam, the ‘step by step to stop the death penalty’ campaign. She was last arrested on 5 May 2015 and served her sentences in Evin and Zanjan prisons before being released on 8 October 2020.
