Iran’s Islamic revolutionary guard corps (IRGC) on Tuesday received anti- mine armored vehicle which is maufactured by the Defence industries organisation (DIO).

A mine-resistant armored military vehicle ‘Toufan’, was unveiled in a ceremony attended by Iranian Defense Minister Amir Hatami.

Defense Minister described ‘Toufan’ as a mine-resistant, ambush-protected 4×4 military vehicle designed to have high mobility, and capable to pass through water canals with 1.5m depth, as well as vertical obstacles as high as 50cm, Mehr news agency reported.

He added that ‘Toufan’ is capable of carrying ten passengers, and is equipped with run-flat tires which allows the armored vehicle to leave the conflict zone and drive while flat for a distance of 50km.

‘Toufan’ can also be equipped with semi-heavy weapons, and comes with ballistic protection for the passengers and the crew. The vehicle can travel with a speed of 100 km/h, he added.

According to Hatami, the foreign-manufactured vehicle costs up to $500,000 in global markets, but the Iranian version has been manufactured and delivered to the IRGC Ground Forces with a much lower price.
