Iran will unveil new defense achievements including a destroyer and a submarine next week, Iran’s navy commander said Wednesday.
“Sahand Destroyer and Fateh Submarine are to be unveiled over the next week,” Rear Admiral Hossein Khanzadi was quoted as saying by Press TV.
The destroyer could carry large helicopters, missile defense systems and fighter jets, he said.
The indigenous medium-class submarine “would surprise the Islamic republic’s enemies,” Khanzadi said without providing further details.
The commander played down the impact of U.S. sanctions on Iran’s naval industry.
Iran has been successfully weathering sanctions for more than 40 years now, Khanzadi said, noting that the pressures had “taught us to stand on our own feet and not to depend on other powers for our security.”
On Tuesday, Iran’s Defense Ministry unveiled a homegrown state-of-art armored military vehicle, named Toofan (hurricane), and inaugurated its assembly line.
