The Prosecutor General of Iran’s Lorestan province announced the arrest of a third Khorramabad city council member on Wednesday as part of an expanding investigation into financial corruption.

Ali Hassanvand confirmed the arrest on charges of accepting bribes and abusing his official position.

The latest arrest follows the earlier detentions of two other council members, a district mayor, and two municipal employees.

The ongoing investigation has focused on corruption within the city’s municipal administration, with Hassanvand emphasizing the judiciary’s commitment to combating bribery and misconduct in provincial institutions.

On November 30, the Lorestan prosecutor reported the initial arrests of two council members and a district mayor in Khorramabad.

The most recent arrest brings the total number of officials implicated in the investigation to six.
