Iran continues to develop its aviation fleet by purchasing new planes and conducting overhaul and repair of available planes, spokesman of Iran Civil Aviation Organization (CAO) Reza Jafarzadeh told Trend.

Jafarzadeh added that recently, Iran Air purchased three new Airbus aircraft.

“In past three decades, we had heavy limitations in aviation sector; the Civil Aviation Organization has always tried to develop aviation and its fleet, buy new equipment for airports and conduct training for personnel,” the spokesperson said. “The limitation has created difficulties; however, the air transportation sector is using the experiences from past decades.”

“Despite the US expectations that the air transportation sector will decline in the country, the Civil Aviation Organization constantly follows the aviation standards based on the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) transportation regulations and never stops the development,” Jafarzadeh said.

“There have been growth and progress in various sectors of aviation industry including overhaul and repair sector to maintain the fleet while developing domestic capabilities,” the spokesperson added.

“The world can see that the country was successful in solving problems despite limitations. The development of fleet is another goal of the organization, as we intend to expand the fleet,” said Jafarzadeh.

Iran’s Minister of Road and Urban Development Mohammad Eslami has announced that the country will add three new Airbus planes to its aviation fleet.

Following US sanctions against Iran, major airplane manufacturers were prevented to sell plane or plane parts to Iran.

The implementation of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action in January 2016 resulted in the signing of a deal for Iran to buy 200 Boeing, Airbus and ATR aircraft, but the US withdrew from the agreement in May 2018.
