Iran people’s uprising in 2009 changed the political image of the country and was a turning point in the history of the people’s protests.

Why? Because it was the first major nationwide protest after the revolution in 1979. At the anniversary of this event, it is worthy to have a look at this event from a new perspective, aligned with the current socio-political situation in the country.

After this event, many inside and outside the country tried to attach the protests to the so-called green movement, which is fundamentally false. Those who insist on this are mostly people who seek to find out a way to create reform in this regime.

Without considering that reforms in this regime are not applicable, something that was tested by the MEK for nearly 3 years after the revolution. Then once again the people, mainly students tried it out in 1999 after Mohamad Khatami took the power.

In all situations, the regime’s responded to the peaceful demands of the people brutally. But after the nation-wide protests in 2018 with the outcome ‘Reformists, Principlists the game is over’ and after the latest elections, while the regime’s supreme leader Ali Khamenei swept the reformists out of the government, this showed us that the so-called reformists have nothing to do with the people’s protests and are just a few criminals coordinated with the regime against the people to divert the people from a real solution.

None of the regime’s worthless reformist groups from green to violet considered the regime change and paid attention not to criticize the regime’s supreme leader which is considered the main red line of the regime. They are in cooperation with the regime and appreciate the regime’s existence and are in enmity with the MEK and any others who seek a real change and the overthrow of the regime.

“I say as a sympathizer (the Mojahedin) are dead with their betrayals and crimes, to gain factional concessions and hatred do not revive them.” (Mir Hossein Mousavi, Statement No. 17)

Despite the demands of the country’s youths and people, elements such as Mousavi invited the people to calmness and silent protests. With their messages they tried to extinguish the fire of the protests in any way:

“Please refrain from falling into the trap of reactions that lead to the abuse of excuse seekers and dishonest people while maintaining calm, restraint and sobriety.” (Statement of Mousavi’s headquarters, June 13, 2009)

Who else could be these ‘excuse seekers and dishonest people’ be other than angry people, youths, and those who are seeking to make a root change in this regime?

The passage of time confirmed the accuracy of this perception. In the uprising of December 2017, the political maturity of the people said the end of the story of reformism and principlism. In the November 2019 uprising, both regime’s factions revealed their complicity in the repression of the people, and the boundaries between the people and the anti-people became clearer.

“The Ashura movement was exactly Moharebeh (enmity against God), you might say that the condition of Moharebeh is to be armed, note that the commanders of the Ashura movement were the (Mojahedin) and the Ashura rioters chanted the same slogans that they (Mojahedin) had published on their websites. Our honorable Imam said during the Mersad operation (Mojahedin) are Moharebs and whoever announces cooperation and support with the Moharebs inside the country is also a Mohareb.” (State-run daily Khabar Online, December 30, 2009)
