The Iranian ambassador in Baghdad, Iraj Masjedi, said that revenge for the assassination of General Qassem Soleimani, the former Iranian Revolutionary Guard commander, will necessarily be carried out militarily, indicating that Tehran supports the trend of those who reject the American presence in the region.

Masjedi stressed that his country has no hand in bombing the US embassy in Baghdad and does not support any party standing behind it, according to the Al-Iraqiya news channel, which referred to his speech about “the cessation of the military escalation between Iran and the United States after Tehran’s response to the assassination of Soleimani.”

He continued: “Iran will not interfere in Iraqi affairs nor impose its policies,” adding: “The military escalation between Iran and the United States stopped after Tehran’s response to the assassination of General Qassem Soleimani.”

Tehran’s ambassador in Baghdad said that “expelling the American forces from the region is tantamount to revenge,” as this was one of Soleimani’s objectives during his tenure as commander of the Quds Force of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).

Masjedi referred to what he described as “Tehran’s support for the people who reject the American presence in the region,” as one of its primary objectives in dealing with the U.S.

It should be noted that Major General Qassem Soleimani was assassinated by the United States outside of Baghdad International Airport on January 3rd, 2020.
