An Iranian institute that conducts research and provides educational programs in basic and applied medical sciences programs; research departments include Department of Bacteriology, Department of Biochemistry, Department of Biotechnology, Department of Electron Microscopy, Department of Epidemiology, Department of Hepatitis and AIDS, Department of Immunology, Department of Molecular Biology, Department of Mycobacteriology, Department of Mycology, Department of National Cell Bank, Department of Parasitology, Department of Physiology and Pharmacology, Department of Rabies, and Department of Virology, as well as a Laboratory of Arboviruses and a Vaccination Center; governed by a Senate committee under the Iranian ministry of health; claims to be affiliated with the Pasteur Institute in Paris, France, and with three institutes in Iran, including the Institute for Biochemistry and Biophysics (IBB), the National Research Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (NRCGEB), and the Razi Institute;

According to the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), housed a secret research complex working on toxic fungus and microbial substances in 1985 and 1986; according to the NCRI, the center succeeded in producing toxic fungus, including aflatoxin; according to the NCRI, currently used for research purposes;
