The state-run Mehr news agency quoted the East Tehran Police Chief on December 28, 2017 as saying 35 partygoers were arrested in a mixed party in Varamin, west of Tehran for dancing and drinking. “Police officers arrested 35 people in a night party near Varamin. These people were dancing and drinking alcohol”, Abdulreza Nazeri said.

“A number of people selling unauthorized CDs were also arrested in East Tehran,” he added.

In yet another case the capital’s Moral Security Police Chief, Zolfaqar Barfar announced the arrests of 230 young partygoers on December 21, 2017 in two separate night parties, according to the state-run Tasnim News Agency.
The State Security Force raided what have been described as a mixed-gender party in Lavasan and Farmanieh in the northern part of the capital Tehran.
The young men and women were celebrating Yalda night, one of the most celebrated traditional events in Iran which marks the longest night of the year, that is, the renewal of the sun and the victory of light over darkness.
