There are reports of a mine blast in Golestan province (northern Iran) on Wednesday, May 3rd which at least 15 workers are injured and at least 80 workers are “trapped”. Also, Telegram’s channel of State owned website “Entekhab” has reported that two miners’ corpuses are removed from the rubbles. But authorities have not still confirmed this report. According to the State run News Agency ISNA, Shahin Fathi, vice ‘rescue and assistant’ of Red Crescent’s operation announced that Azadshahr mine’s explosion which occurred at 12 noon on Wednesday had injured15 miners.

55 miners were working in the mine that 40 of them are “trapped” there, according to this official.

However, Islamic Revolutionary Guards affiliated Fars News Agency, quoted an emergency official announcing possibility of 80 workers entrapment in the mine. According to that agency, Pirhossein Kolivand, said that the mine has two sections 40 workers in one and 30 to 40 workers in another section of mine are caught.

The regime’s IRIB News Agency, announced that 18 workers were injured in the incident and 50 workers are “trapped” in the mine.

According to various reports the intensity of blast which occurred during the shift change has been very high.

The mine is located at14 km from Azadshahr and 90 km East of Gorgan in Golestan province, and Five hundred workers have been working in this coal mine.

In recent years, many Iranian miners have been killed or injured of work related accidents.

Among them, in 2014, 5 miners were killed due to an explosion at the “Rabbit Castle” granite mine in Ardakan, Yazd (central Iran). Also on March 2012 the gas explosion at “Poudneh Spring” Kuhbanan coal mine (southeastern Iran, Kerman Province) caused three miners death and six others wounded.
