The Iranian people will soon achieve the freedom they have been fighting for, according to former Algerian Prime Minister Sid Ahmed Ghozali.

Ghozali, who held many powerful positions in Algeria before becoming Prime Minister, wrote an op-ed for The Daily Caller detailing his observations about Iran through the years from the Shah to the Mullahs to the ongoing people’s uprising.

In the piece, he correctly assesses that the Iranian people were demanding regime change under the rule of the “despot” Shah, which is why Algeria supported the Iranian revolution and even developed relations with the new regime.

But then, during his tenure as foreign minister, Ghozali notes that he discovered the mullahs’ regime was providing support for terrorist groups within Algeria, which did not stop after the mullahs were confronted.

He said: “I am still astonished that the mullahs’ regime has persisted in such backstabbing practices after they were exposed. Tehran’s commitment to extremism and terrorist sponsorship was recorded in the minutes of meetings and debates that were held, for example, between Abbas Madani, the leader of the Islamic Salvation Front in Algeria, and [supreme leader Ali] Khamenei and Rafsanjani, during his visit to Tehran in 1991.”

Algeria rightly cut off diplomatic ties to Iran, but unfortunately these were restored just nine years later and the mullahs are once again sponsoring terrorism in Algeria.

But there is hope for Iran and that is the Iranian people and their organised resistance.

The Iranian people are currently protesting out in the streets, despite the very real risk of being arrested or killed by the Regime’s agents. They believe that freedom is more important than their lives.

This is not a new feeling among the Iranian people. Some 120,000 members of the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK) have already been killed by the Regime for their political activism, including 30,000 who were slaughtered in the 1988 massacre.

Ghozali wrote: “The victims sacrificed themselves for freedom and democracy, and this legacy has lately begun to bear fruit in the Iranian street.”

Despite years of brutality, propaganda, and oppression, the Regime has not quelled the Iranian people’s desire for regime change. The Iranian Resistance will win this fight for freedom and the mullahs will be overthrown. There can be no doubt about this.

Ghozali wrote: “After dealing with the Iranian situation for half a century, I have the sense that the long odyssey of the Iranian people is nearing its end and that they will attain freedom by standing up to the current dictatorship as they did to the Shah’s regime, this time facilitating democratic change at the hands of the Iranian people and the resistance.”

On June 30, the Iranian Resistance will hold its annual free Iran gathering in Paris, where over 100,000 people will join together to call for regime change. The Iranian people want a free, democratic Iran that is dedicated to human rights and soon, they will have it.
