The US is concerned over the Iranian Regime’s plans to build a $1 billion oil refinery near to Homs in Syria; a city that has been badly affected by the still-raging civil war.
General Joseph Dunford, the chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff, expressed his concern on Tuesday, September 26, noting that this is just more evidence of the Iranian Regime’s destructive control over other Middle Eastern nations.
He said: “Iran is projecting malign influences across the Middle East and supporting terrorist organizations in Syria, Iraq and Yemen.”
Also on Tuesday, Akbar Zamanian, the head of downstream technologies at Iran regime’s Research Institute of the Petroleum Industry, told the Regime –affiliated Fars news agency, that this new oil refinery would be able to produce 40,000 barrels per day at the start and this would gradually increase to 140,000 barrels per day.
He said: “This refinery will be built as a consortium with the participation of Iran, Venezuela and Syria.”
While Mansour Bazmi, the acting chief of Iran regime’s Research Institute of Petroleum Industry (RIPI), said that the main products of the refinery would be gasoline and gas oil, and that funding would be secured from international investors.
The oil refinery’s scheduled location would be an area that is already under control of the Iranian Regime; lands that don’t look like they will be handed back to Syria.
Syria Civil War
Bazmi said that construction would begin after the Syrian Civil War ends.
This poses some interesting questions, such as why would the Iranian Regime still need to be present in Syria after the civil war and when will they concede to the will of the Syrian people and allowing the Syrian dictatorship to fall in order to get their oil refinery built?
Iran has been supporting Bashar Assad in his fight against his own people for years now, dragging the Syrian Civil War out well past its natural end.
Iran’s Revolutionary Guards (IRGC) has provided Assad with weapons, including aircraft carrying guided missiles, money, and 70,000 militias from Iran, Iraq, Pakistan and Afghanistan.
Other concessions to Iran
Earlier this month, the Iranian Regime and the Assad dictatorship agreed to build a power plant in the coastal province of Latakia with a capacity of 540 megawatts, and another plant in Deir el-Zour.
Some have argued that Iran is cashing in on the destruction of Syria with these contracts which include a phosphate mine in central Syria, thousands of hectares of arable farmland, and a new mobile phone network.
