Iranian teachers hold protest in more than 24 cities to mark Iranian Teachers Day and demanding their basic rights and the release of detained teachers.

Reports and videos from the Tehran labor gathering outside Iran’s Department of Education building indicated that security forces attacked the peaceful gathering.

Cities that have joined the protests include Tehran, Isfahan, Tabriz, Karaj, Hamedan, Kermanshah, Sanandaj, Qazvin, Marivan, Urmia, Yazd, Torbat-e Heydarieh, Ardebil, and Javanroud among others.
In the past year, Iranian teachers, have held dozens of rallies to demand their rights along with other Iranians especially workers and government employees, who have protested economic woes, government corruption and lack of political freedom.

Iranian teachers are demanding better wages, free education, respect for the rights of minorities and the cancellation of several governments plans that further put a strain on the already poor living conditions of Iran’s education workers.
