On the eve of the anniversary of Mahsa Amini’s death, over 100 victims of the Iranian regime and their families published an open letter addressed to world leaders, urging their immediate action to end the regime’s escalating violence.
Out of the 100 signees, only 35 signatories are able to share their information publicly.
Amini died in a hospital in 2022 following her arrest by Iran’s morality police for allegedly not wearing her hijab properly. Her death sparked a mass wave of global protests and the Women, Life, Freedom movement.
“The regime’s response to our protests was severe bodily harm: blinding or killing our loved ones with live ammunition, and torturing and executing them with the noose in its prisons, ” the letter read.
“At home, [the Islamic Republic] silences people through executions and crackdowns; abroad, it threatens global security through state terrorism, hostage-taking, wars waged via its proxies, the production of long-range missiles, and its pursuit of nuclear weapons.”
“Despite this bloody repression, the Iranian people – women and men, young and old – continue to protest and struggle for freedom and a dignified life.”
Ending the regime’s reign of terror
The letter called for the international designation of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) as a terrorist organization. It also calls for cutting all diplomatic and economic ties that legitimize the regime, imposing sanctions on the IRGC’s networks, and providing support to the Iranian people as they transition to a democratic government.
“The people of Iran have shed blood and stood firm. Now it is time for the international community to act for its own security,” the letter ended.
“The struggle of the Iranian nation will be remembered in history as a sacrifice not only for freedom but also for the security of the world.”
