Iran’s government has many concerns and one of them is the regime’s cooperation with countries of the world. Many of the regime’s officials from both factions and the affiliated media, see this interaction as equal to the regime’s nuclear negotiations and the JCPOA.

In a journey to Qom, the regime’s president Ebrahim Raisi about this subject said, that its government is in the “search of interaction with the world and the neighbors” and has “started it seriously.” (State-run news agency Fars, November 22, 2021)

And the state-TV New Channel said that in a visit with Raisi they emphasized the importance of interaction and communication with the world and Cleric Safi Golpaygani said that they should be in relation with the world by considering the (regime’s) dignity and authority and conveying the message of peace and friendship to the world.” (Sate-TV News Channel, January 1, 2021)

One of the regime’s prominent clerics Abdollah Javadi Amoli in a meeting with Raisi suggested that “we should not cut our relations with the world as have emphasized it in the previous meeting.” (State-run daily Shargh, January 1, 2021)

Kayhan, the mouthpiece of the regime’s supreme leader Ali Khamenei in a report about Raisi’s meeting with the scholars of in Hawza of Qom counted one of the suggestions to Raisi “the increase of international interactions.” (Kayhan, December 2, 2021)

What is this all about this ‘interaction’ and the concerns of the regime’s elements especially important clerics? The truth is that the regime is in a bad situation and without changing its behavior and relations with other countries of the world especially in the Middle East, there is no perspective of progression and any changes in the regime’s many problems.

One of these problems is the regime’s economic stalemate and it is not without reason that the regime is trying so hard to lift the sanctions in the nuclear negotiations.

“We are negotiating following the law on strategic action of the parliament for the complete lifting of the sanctions that have been passed, to ensure Iran’s interests. These talks are aimed at lifting the sanctions,” said Abbas Moqtadaei, deputy chairman of the Security Committee of the reactionary parliament. (State-run daily Resalat, February 19, 2021)

But if the regime wants a real “interaction with the world” and realizes that its wish about the lifting of the sanctions is accomplished, it must accept the conditions of the Western countries discussed in the nuclear negotiations.

And in addition, if it wants to see new relations in the Middle East it must stop all its malign activities and start serious and impressive dialogues with the countries. This is the only way in which the world powers and the Middle East countries can interact with the regime.

But the truth is that despite all the comments from Raisi to the scholars of Qom the final decision maker in any interaction with the world is Khamenei who has the first and the last world about any subject, especially about macro politics.

Therefore, like now and like the nuclear negotiations in 2014 and 2016 all decisions are taken by himself. And in addition, all important policies like the regime’s nuclear and missile programs and its regional policies are determined by the regime’s Supreme Security Council under the supervision of Khamenei.

However, until now Khamenei did not say anything about the regime’s nuclear negotiations. On January 1, 2022, Khamenei concurrent with the anniversary of Qasem Soleimani’s killing, exaggerated about the regime’s regional policies and the role of Soleimani in the advance of these policies but did not mention even once the nuclear negotiation which is the most important subject on the regime’s desk.

Even after Ali Bagheri, head of the regime’s negotiating team expressed optimism about the progress of the negotiations.

Foreign Policy added that Ulyanov had said Iran had (again, the magazine’s words) “agreed to begin negotiations based on a draft hammered out by the previous Iranian government [of President Hassan Rouhani] this past spring.”

Khamenei’s silence on the most important issue on his table indicates the fact that he has not yet been able to take a public position on this issue, although he may be forced to take a specific position in the coming days and weeks. Khamenei knows more than anyone else that his government is in an absolute impasse.

If the regime reaches an agreement with other countries on the nuclear issue, it must comply with their demands. That is, it must stop its nuclear, missile, and regional interventions, while each of which acts as a poison chalice.

But if it insists on its current position and rejects the will of Western countries, then it must accept its deadly consequences, the opportunity for the regime to decide is very short, and Western countries talk about weeks, not months.
