In a statement, Iranian national athletes and heroes, such as Moslem Eskandar Filabi, former Iranian wrestling champion, holder of 17 medals and chairman of the Sports Committee of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), have called for a boycott of the Iranian regime’s sham parliamentary elections on February 21. The statement is as follows:

To the brave and risen people of Iran

Boycotting the Iranian regime’s sham parliamentary elections is a national and patriotic duty for all the Iranians, athletes, and sports lovers. It is also a sign of solidarity and a tribute to the blood of over 1500 young men and women martyrs of the Iran protests in November 2019; and over 120 thousand martyrs and hundreds of thousands of those who were arrested, tortured and sacrificed their lives for a free Iran and the Iranian regime’s downfall.

In order to achieve a free Iran and fulfilling ideals and goals of the great Iranian nation and her countless martyrs, particularly great national athletes and heroes such as Habib Khabiri, member and captain of the Iranian national football team, Houshang Montazerolzour, Iran wrestling champion at the 1979 Olympic games, Forouzan Abdi, member of the Iranian national women’s volleyball team, Hamid Etrati Koshali, member of the Iranian national football team, Shahla Shahdoust, member of the national table-tennis team, Samad Montazeri, Iran weightlifting champion, Mahshid Razaghi, Member of the Iranian national youth team and Javad Nasiri, Iran fencing champion, we are boycotting the mullahs’ regime’s elections farce and our vote is the regime’s downfall.
