Iranian aircrafts have had their share of problems with the Najaf International Airport in Iraq in the last several years.
Recently, a number of Iranian pilgrims have announced that the Najaf Airport has refused to accept flights from Iran due to financial problems with Iranian airline companies.
According to them, authorities at the Najaf airport have called on Iranian pilgrims to change their tickets that were related to Iranian airline companies, Trend reports via IRNA.
According to the pilgrims, the Najaf airport is refusing to accept the aircrafts of Taban and Ata airlines due to non-payment of their debts.
The deputy ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Iraq Seyyed Musa Alizadeh Tabatabai has confirmed that the current problem between Najaf Airport and some Iranian airline companies is due to financial claims.
“This problem will be solved soon and naturally all Iranian airlines can resume their flights to the Najaf Airport,” Seyyed Musa Alizadeh Tabatabai noted.
In September 2017, the Iranian Airlines Association announced that the debts of Iranian airlines to Najaf Airport is some $16 million.
The Najaf International Airport was built in 2008 and is considered a small airport. The number of daily flights to this airport is 19 flights a day.
