Three protesters detained during nationwide protests in November 2019 were sentenced to death by a court in Tehran.
The three men identified as Amir Hossein Moradi, Saied Tamjidi and Mohammad Rajabi were also sentenced to overall 38 years of prison and 222 lashes by the Tehran Revolutionary Court.
The three are currently detained in the notorious Greater Tehran Prison, also known as Fashafuyeh.
According to the lawyer of one of the men, Judge Salavati charged them with “complicity in damaging and setting fire (to public places) with the intention of countering the Islamic Republic of Iran” during nationwide protests in November 2019.
Salavati is known for handing down heavy sentences to political prisoners.
According to the report by a human rights group, Amir Hossein Moradi was also sentenced to 16 years of prison and 74 lashes for “complicity in armed robbery”.
Saied Tamjidi and Mohammad Rajabi were each sentenced to 11 years of prison and 74 lashes for the same charge.
The report said that the “armed robbery” charge was brought against them because they took a camera from an agent during protests in the Satarkhan neighborhood in Tehran.
Reports indicate that Amir Hossein Moradi was brutally beaten by security forces during interrogations after his arrest in November.
According to a source close to his family, the 25-year-old political prisoner said that he subjected to electric shocks during interrogations and told that if he did not cooperate, his stay in solitary would be prolonged. He also said that an agent stood on his chest, damaging his rib cage.
The reason Moradi was sentenced to death was because he was charged with using his Telegram channel to educate Iranians on how to take away cameras from security forces who were identifying protesters.
The other two political prisoners, Mohammad Rajabi, 25 and Saied Tamjidi, 27, were also severely beaten by security forces to make forced confessions and say they were in contact with the MEK.
Widespread protests started on November 16 after the regime tripled the price of gasoline. During the six days of protests in more than 144 cities, angry Iranians torched at least 100 government buildings including banks, seminaries, police stations and IRGC and Bassij bases.
The regime responded with unprecedented lethal force, killing at least 1,500 civilians and protesters.
