Germany’s Foreign Minister (FM) Analina Baerbock said today (Monday): The European Union foreign ministers will impose a sixth package of sanctions on Iran in response to human rights violations.

“We want to make it clear that no one is above the law,” she told reporters as she arrived for a meeting with her bloc counterparts in Brussels. That is why we will impose a sixth package of sanctions here in Brussels.” She stated that the measures will target those responsible for violating human rights in Iran.

For its part, the British government today imposed sanctions on senior leaders of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard, including those it said were responsible for managing its financial investments. “Today, we are taking action against the senior leaders within Iran’s (Revolutionary Guard) responsible for financing the regime’s brutal repression,” said James Cleverly, the British foreign secretary.

Sanctions were also imposed on five members of the Board of Directors of the Revolutionary Guards Cooperative Foundation and two senior commanders of the Guards in the provinces of Tehran and Alborz.
