Elite Iranian cyber hackers hit vital sections of Britain’s infrastructure in a massive attack just before Christmas, it has been claimed this evening.

Spooks connected to Tehran’s Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps targeted private companies, especially banks and even obtained personal details of executives.

It is believed the IRGC cyber hacking campaign against the UK is ongoing and the Post Office and local goverrnment networks were also attacked. The Iranian assault on Britain’s infrastructure happened on December 23.

The National Cyber Security Centre said it was “aware of a cyber incident affecting some UK organisations in late 2018” and that it was “working with victims and advising on mitigation measures”.

Personal details belonging to thousands of employees were stolen, including the email address and mobile phone number of the Post Office chief executive Paula Vennells.

Analysis by cyber security experts in California has concluded that a group connected to the Iranian Revolutionary Guard was responsible for this attack and the attack on Britain’s parliamentary network in 2017.

Russia, China and North Korea are suspected of having led a cyber attack campaign against Britain for the past decade. Sources say the aim is to destabilise Britain, cause disruption and even spark fear that lives could be in danger by attacking emergency services.

But they have also targeted high-tech companies to try and steal their new inventions.
In one incident ten years ago a British aviation technology company lost millions after a breakthrough in the design of a wing was stolen by a foreign country.
