The Iranian Parliament (Majles) is preparing to table a motion to designate U.S. army as a terrorist organization if U.S. does the same about Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guards Corpse (IRGC), Iranian official news agency IRNA quoted Majles Foreign Relations and National Security Chief Heshmatollah Falahtpisheh as saying on Sunday April 7.
The Majles is to treat the motion as a double-urgency bill, which means it will be discussed immediately as soon as the U.S. implements is threat.
In 2017 the United States added IRGC to its anti-terror sanction list. However, the Department of Treasury made it clear in a statement at the time that the development did not mean the U.S. designated the IRGC as a foreign terrorist organization, although US officials had said previously that they were planning to do so.
Reuters reported April 5 that the United States was once again planning to designate IRGC as a terrorist organization. Observers say the announcement may be made by Monday if the decision is finalized.
Falahatpisheh said once again that upon the approval by the Majles, the Islamic Republic will put U.S. army next to ISIS in its list of terror groups.
He added that the three main factions in the Majles support this motion, adding that the motion is being signed by the MPs and will be delivered to the Majles presidium.
However, he did not elaborate on the details of the motion.
