Sentenced to death on drug-related charges, Hamid Rastegar and Gholamreza Paki have been executed in Isfahan Central Prison.

According to information obtained by Iran Human Rights, two men were executed in Isfahan Central Prison on the morning of March 16. Their identities have been established as 34-year-old Hamid Rastegar and 45-year-old Gholamreza Paki who were sentenced to death for drug offences.

An informed source told Iran Human Rights: “Hamid Rastegar had been in prison for the last four years. Gholamreza Paki had been arrested on charges of carrying 100 kilograms of methamphetamine five years ago and sentenced to death by the Revolutionary Court. He was married with a nine-year-old child. Gholamreza’s co-defendant was also initially sentenced to death but it was later commuted to 20 years imprisonment.”

Despite more than a month passing, their executions have not been reported by domestic media or officials in Iran.

According to data gathered by Iran Human Rights, 25 people were executed on drug-related charges in 2020, which significantly increased to over 100 in 2021.
