The Iranian Regime is fast running out of time and soon enough the mullahs will be overthrown by the Iranian people and their organised resistance, led by Maryam Rajavi. In a near future, the Iranian Regime could have fallen and Maryam Rajavi will take her rightful place as President of Iran for a six-month transitional period, but many around the world are unsure what that would mean for Iran, so let’s go straight to the source herself: Maryam Rajavi.

Maryam Rajavi believes that the Iranian people should enjoy the right to democratically elect their leaders, which is why her main objective during the six months following the fall of the mullahs will be to arrange elections so that the people can vote for a member of a National Assembly.

Maryam Rajavi and the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), who currently serves as the parliament in exile, have essentially given themselves the role of transferring power to the Iranian people through “free and popular elections” where every citizen’s vote is “direct, equal and secret”.

Maryam Rajavi said: “As soon as the national assembly has been formed and expresses readiness to fulfil its responsibilities and obligations, the provisional government shall hand over its resignation to the assembly.”

Maryam Rajavi and the Iranian Resistance have been clear from the beginning that free elections based on the principle of popular sovereignty should be the only route to political power.

They even repeatedly said that they will give up their resistance efforts if the mullahs win a free election, which was supervised by the UN or any other competent international agency, as it would then be clear that the Iranian people want the Regime. The mullahs have never taken Maryam Rajavi up on that offer.

However, free elections are not the only thing that Maryam Rajavi is striving to achieve in that six-month period. She also wants to install a Constitution based on freedom, democracy, and equality.

Maryam Rajavi said: “This Constitution is founded on a free, tolerant and progressive republic. It rests on pluralism, separation of religion and state, women’s equality and the active and equal participation of women in political leadership. We believe in equal rights for all ethnic and religious minorities and a society devoid of torture and executions.”

This Constitution would not be drafted by the criminals in the Assembly of Experts, but rather by the elected representatives of the Iranian people in a Constituent Assembly. It would reflect what is in the hearts of Iranians rather than the mullahs. This is something that the Iranian people have been fighting for through at least three revolutions for over a century, Maryam Rajavi said.

Maryam Rajavi said: “And now, our Resistance has arisen to ensure freedom of choice for each and every one of our fellow Iranians. We have rejected the ruling tyrannical regime. We have rejected a religion based on compulsion and misogyny. And we have rejected the Constitution of the velayat-e faqih.”

And that is what will change immediately after the mullahs are deposed.
