Ali Bagheri Kani, Iran’s acting Foreign Minister, held discussions with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad in Damascus on Tuesday.
During the meeting, they addressed the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas in Gaza, alongside Bagheri Kani’s Syrian counterpart, Faisal Mekdad.
This marked his first journey abroad since assuming the role of Iran’s acting top diplomat.
Bagheri Kani also met with Palestinian factions at the Iranian embassy in Damascus.
Iran maintains support for Palestinian armed groups, including Hamas, the organization responsible for initiating the October 7 attack on Israeli territory that ignited the Gaza conflict.
On Tuesday afternoon, Bagheri Kani was received by Assad to engage in talks concerning the bilateral relations between the two long standing allies.
