President Donald Trump has piled pressure on close US allies in an interview that aired on Sunday with a threat to sanction European companies that do business with Iran.

The president, in an interview with Fox News’ “Sunday Morning Futures with Maria Bartiromo,” said: “Of course. That’s what we’re doing, absolutely.”

Earlier this year, to the chagrin of European partners, Trump said he would pull the United States out of the 2015 Iran nuclear agreement secured by world powers.

He said the US would reimpose economic sanctions on Iran and its business partners by November 4.

Iran vowed Sunday to defeat US efforts to block its oil exports.

“We will surely do something to thwart the US rallying cry that Iranian oil (exports) must be stemmed,” First Vice President Eshagh Jahangiri said in statements broadcast on state television.

“The (Iranian) government has a plan,” he added.
