The Iranian embassy in Libya is ready to provide consular services, the Iranian Students’ News Agency (ISNA) reported Sunday, quoting the head of Iran’s diplomatic delegation in the North African country.
“Given the closure of the Iranian embassy in Libya over the past years, we are currently preparing and organizing its building. Fortunately, the embassy is ready to accept clients,” Einollah Souri told the ISNA when commenting on the latest developments in Iran’s diplomatic relations with Libya.
Over the past days, good meetings were held between the Iranian delegation and Libyan officials, which is indicative of the two countries’ determination to expand relations, particularly in the areas of economy and trade, he said.
The Islamic Republic of Iran Shipping Lines, the country’s national maritime carrier, has also resumed its operations in Libya, with its first ship berthed at Libya’s Misrata port on Wednesday after about 10 years, according to the senior Iranian diplomat.
Souri expressed hope that Iran would be able to restore relations with Libya to the past level in the short term.
Speaking at a weekly press conference last week, Iran’s Foreign Ministry Spokesman Nasser Kanaani said the country’s embassy in Libya had practically resumed its diplomatic operations, adding Libya had sent its new ambassador to Iran.
