Even after nuclear agreement, U.S. report says Iran supplies money, training, and weapons to terrorist organizations worldwide • Ayatollah Ali Khamenei: Iran will not cooperate with U.S. to solve regional crisis, as [our] aims are 180 degrees opposed.
Even after concluding a deal on its nuclear program with six major world powers, Iran is still the leading state sponsor of terrorism globally, according to the annual “Country Reports on Terrorism” published by the U.S. State Department this weekend.
The report called the Islamic State group “the greatest terrorism threat.”
The report says that Iran provides weapons, funding, and training to terrorist organizations throughout the world.
Aside from Iran, the report also categorizes Syria and Sudan as sponsors of terrorism. Cuba, which was fourth on the list of countries that sponsor terrorism, was removed from the report this year following the improved relations between Washington and Havana.
Meanwhile, Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has not altered his rhetoric. On Friday, Khamenei said that the U.S. and “this very evil Britain” and the “cursed, destructive Zionist regime” were Iran’s foremost enemies.
Khamenei went on to say that the West was not fulfilling its part of the nuclear agreement.
In his speech, the ayatollah called the U.S. “the great Satan” and added: “We will not cooperate with America over the regional crisis. … Their aims in the region are 180 degrees opposed to Iran’s.”
A day earlier, it was reported that Iran was creating obstacles to the implementation of a sale of 32 tons of heavy water to the U.S. The Washington Free Beacon reported that Iran was insisting on receiving the $8.6 million payment in full before it would ship the water.
