There should be no doubt about the Iranian regime’s “menacing role” in Yemen, Saudi Arabia’s ambassador to the US Prince Khalid bin Salman said, referring to the Iranian Revolutionary Guards Commander Nasser Shabani’s statements admitting to being behind the attack of the two Saudi oil tankers.

According to the Iranian news agency Fars, Shabani said: “We asked the Yemenis to attack the two Saudi oil tankers, so they did it.” The article was since removed from the website.

“There should be no more doubt about the Iranian regime’s menacing role in Yemen and disregard for human suffering and the environment,” Prince Khalid tweeted.

Shabani had also said that the Houthi militias in Yemen and Lebanese Hezbollah militias “represented Iran’s depth in the region.”

Prince Khalid attached a screenshot of the original article where Shabani made his statements to his tweet.

The Arab Coalition supporting legitimacy in Yemen had announced on July 25 the abortion of a Houthi attack targeting two Saudi oil tankers in Bab al-Mandeb, opposite Yemen’s west coast.

Arab Coalition spokesman, Colonel Turki al-Maliki, had said that one of the oil tankers suffered minor damages before the intervention of the Arab Coalition’s naval forces.
