The secretary general of the Iranian Association of Employers of Petrochemical Industry said that $53 billion worth of non-oil products was exported from the country in the last Iranian calendar year (ended March 20) $16 billion of which was the share of petchem companies.

Ahmad Mahdavi Abhari made the remarks in a news conference on Sunday and added, “If production is supported and obstacles are removed in the country, the economy will grow and consequently, the export of products will increase.”

He called on responsible officials to throw their weight behind economic enterprises in line with spurring export and export activities.

He pointed to the key role of the petrochemical industry in the export of non-oil products, which is tangible at the capital market and added that the petrochemical industry accounts for 30 percent of the capital market.

Elsewhere in his remarks, Abhari referred to the sanctions imposed against the country and stressed that the petrochemical industry has managed to successfully overcome difficulties during this period.

He went on to say that over one million tons of petrochemicals have been sold at the Iran Mercantile Exchange (IME) in the first five months of the current Iranian calendar year (March 21 to August 22, 2023), showing a 25 percent hike compared to last year’s corresponding period.
